WorldViz and SantosHuman Inc. (SHI) have begun co-development to integrate SHI predictive models into the Worldviz VR development platform, enabling users to rapidly develop virtual reality applications that accurately reflect and predict human physical performance and interactions with virtual objects and environments.
Approved Quote from Steve Beck, President & CEO, SHI, “I am very pleased with the opportunity to work with such an exceptional company as WorldViz. SHI’s unique approach to predicting human performance makes Santos® technologies ideally suited to augment the impressive capabilities already available within Vizard.
Approved quote from Andrew Beall, CEO,WorldViz,“The ability to accurately model and predict human interaction within virtual reality simulations has been a challenging problem for VR developers for decades. The Santos® human predictive models are exceptionally well designed and based on research with University of Iowa, resulting in accurate analyses of the human form in would-be physically challenging environments. We are thrilled to integrate this technology in to our Vizard engine and help make it available to the VR development community.”
SHI’s technologies (now commonly referred to as Santos®) predict human behavior through validated, first-principles-based mathematical models. These models predict and analyze human performance while taking into consideration strength, fatigue, flexibility, balance, vision, posture, external forces, clothing, equipment, and the environment as input parameters. SHI’s products provide its clients with the ability to perform virtual product testing for human-in-the-loop design issues much earlier in a product’s design cycle where changes that may be required are significantly easier to make.
Vizard, developed by WorldViz, was designed from its inception as a VR development and simulation engine capable of supporting a wide variety of input and output devices such as of HMDs, 3D projection systems, haptic devices, motion capture suites and other input devices. Vizard is currently deployed across 1500+ Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions and government agencies and is used to help those organizations solve real-world problems in areas such as product design, education, training, marketing, and research. The integration SHI’s human simulation models is a natural extension of Vizard for VR applications in simulation, training and design.
align="justify">During the co-development effort, SHI will provide WorldViz with targeted Santos® technologies, consulting, and technical support for the Santos®-specific components.
Approved Quote from Dr. Tim Marler, CRO, SHI, “As the growth of modeling and simulation accelerates, and as virtual reality tools become more pervasive not just as demonstrations but as solutions for critical challenges, it is exciting to form this partnership that helps push forward the field of digital human modeling. The kinds of things SHI is pursuing with WorldViz will provide some unique and very helpful tools. We are bringing Santos® capabilities within the world of VR, essentially marrying cutting edge technology for both 3D visualization and predictive human modeling.”
When completed, the Vizard Santos® Module (working title) will enhance Vizard with state-of-the-art human predictive simulation models. These Santos® predictive simulation models will allow WorldViz customers to easily create and conduct virtual product design, modification and analysis for the most demanding of use-cases at reduced costs and accelerated development time, all within the Vizard environment.
