The Technology Association of Iowa last night honored three Corridor companies, along with NewBoCo and its Executive Director Eric Engelmann, in the organization's annual Prometheus Awards for technology industry leadership.

Mr. Engelmann was honored as CEO of the Year Award for his vision as founder and executive director of the New Bohemian Innovation Collaborative (NewBoCo) in Cedar Rapids. The association also honored NewBoCo with the LWBJ Impact Award, citing its investments in 26 startup companies that have raised $6 million, and the growth of technical and creative talent in its innovative educational programs.

The other Prometheus Awards winners in the Corridor include:

Higher Learning Technologies, of Coralville, which won Mobile App of the Year for its NCLEX Mastery app, the top grossing education and medical app in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It is used by more than 90 percent of all United States graduating nurses to prepare for their professional exam.

Telepharm, of Iowa City, which won Software Company of the Year for its industry-leading telepharmacy solution, which enables pharmacists to become more efficient and improve patient care.

SwineTech, a University of Iowa graduate student-led startup based in New Sharon, which won Student Innovation of the Year for its system for reducing piglet mortality in the pork industry.

"The 2017 award winners epitomize the great talent, companies and communities in Iowa and further solidify Iowa's reputation as a technology state," TAI President Brian Waller stated in a press release. He said Iowa's tech industry employs more than 76,000 people and accounts for 8.8 percent of statewide GDP.
