Pani Clean is pleased to announce the installation of its containerized, off-grid pilot unit at the Iowa Wastewater and Waste to Energy Research Program (IWWERP) Tech Park.

Powered by solar panels, the modular system features a 7kW electrolyzer that selectively converts nitrogen pollutants in water into ammonia and clean water. The pilot unit is designed to process a variety of nitrogen-rich waste streams, including nitrate brines, NOx scrubber wastewater, and chemical nitrate effluents – enabling decentralized treatment and recovery of valuable resources.

Built for plug-and-play integration with existing infrastructure, the system supports a circular economy approach by turning waste into reusable materials directly at the source.

This development was made possible with funding support from the USDA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I and Phase II grants, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation’s Pitch-to-Pilot program. Pani Clean also acknowledges the continued support of the John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC) at the University of Iowa and BioConnect Iowa.
